"Elliot is really skilled with chords and key playing in general, far more than I am. My strongest memory making this song was asking him to just find some of the prettiest synth pads he could and just do whatever came to him and I was in legitimate awe at what he played within 10 seconds. I think the song began with the drums though, when it starts it kinda sounds like a load of percussion is just toppling or something, so I think we both knew to keep all of the melodies simple and ear grabbing because the drums were just so busy, the song wouldn’t have turned out as catchy or addictive otherwise. We wanted something instantaneous and replayable so the song has a generally happy tone to it, especially in its final minute or so. There’s a piano sample that comes in at around the midpoint of the song that’s in my opinion one of the coolest transitional moments of any song I’ve worked on, every time I hear it back it always feels just like a warm embrace, love how the track ends. For song titles we always do this thing where we both think in silence for like 3 mins until we think of a nice word that just represents the song, and then we do a countdown and say the word we thought of out loud to each other. I landed on ‘cyan’ and he landed on ‘venture’."
