"For this song I asked Shye to send me something that feels like a soft wall of memories that you miss, like eerily looking back on simpler times. She sent a 2-3 min recording of these really fragile bells and I thought it was perfect. My original plan for the song as soon as I’d heard the sample was just to make a really reflective sounding wonky beat out of it which is what I think you hear at the start & end of the song but as I kept experimenting with the sample and adding different effects and drums to it, I ended up creating that really overpowering middle section which just gave the song a very different feeling, like overcoming of fighting through some kind of major defeat. I love how Shye’s music manages to evoke so much with something so minimal so it was a lot of fun taking something like that and warping it into a song that sounds a bit more untamed and dishevelled. I called it Semper Fidelis because that phrase is about staying loyal and the song just makes me feel determined, like the overwhelming desire to hold onto something as hard as possible." - Vale-Smith
